Cooperative Partnerships

Cooperative partnerships are an important part of the way that the Okanogan Conservation District does business. Working with other groups and Agencies allows OCD staff to get more done for the landowners of the county. The federal agency Natural Resource Conservation Service is the main cooperative partner that the District works with, The NRCS supplies technical expertise and design functions to some of the projects that OCD works on as well as providing some staff time in some areas such as the Technical Service Provider agreement. In return the NRCS gets the opportunity to apply more conservation practices on the ground due to the efforts of the District Staff who are often the closest point of access to the landowners for agency folks.

This close access and trust of the landowners leads to another form of cooperation with government regulators that may have identified a resource concern, these regulators will recommend that the land owner work with OCD staff to correct the problem. If contacted by an individual with a concern the staff will work to find funding and a design to solve the problem before any regulatory action is needed.

The District has also worked closely with the Bureau of Reclamation in the Methow Valley on a number of fish enhancement projects to provide fish passage and supply needed irrigation water to ranchers in the area. The BOR provides facility design and on site engineering while the OCD provides project sponsorship and general project management.

In addition to this partnership the BOR provides funds for district staff to perform stream gauging and water measurement in a number of streams in the Methow where the BOR may be working in the future or have done work in the past that they need flow records for.

The District is involved in many other partnerships in a number of areas including Okanogan County, the Upper Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group, State of Washington Dept of Ecology, State Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and various other non profit groups.
