Okanogan Conservation District Services

Listed below are several categories of services we offer that are linked to pages with more information. If you don’t see a service here but believe we may be able to help, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to assist any way we can.

Technical Assistance

Upon request and funding availability we can assist producers with natural resource evaluations and identification of conservation practices.  This service as with all services are free.

Mediate Regulatory Complaints

The District is often contacted by landowners to provide technical assistance regarding a water quality complaint they have received from a regulatory agency.

Conservation Planning

Conservation planning is complex and dynamic.  It focuses on developing complete, comprehensive, conservation plans considering all of the resources (soil, water, air, plants, and animals) and the human concerns (economic and social).  Successful planning requires a high level of knowledge, skills, and exercise of professional judgment on the part of the planner.

Cooperative Partnerships

Cooperative partnerships are an important part of the way that the Okanogan Conservation District does business.  Working with other agencies, such as Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) allows OCD staff to accomplish more for the county landowners.  This close access and trust of the landowners leads to another form of cooperation with government regulators that may have identified a resource concern.  We’ll work together with the landowner to correct the problem before any regulatory action is needed.

Coordinated Resource Management

Rising demand for natural resources has lead to intensifying conflicts between landowners, land users, interest groups and resource management agencies. Coordinated Resource Management (CRM) was created as a way to reduce these conflicts and reach mutually agreeable management strategies.

Community Outreach

The Okanogan Conservation District is actively involved in the community throughout the county.  Each OCD program is open to the public and anyone is welcome to attend.  These programs are not only educational and informative, but a wonderful learning experience as most are “hands on”.  There is no charge for any of these activities.

Plant Sale

Every spring the Okanogan Conservation District holds an annual plant sale.  If you are interested, please feel free to stop by our office and pick up a brochure which includes an order form and a list of all 20 plants available for purchase.  If you missed the order date, there will be a surplus of plants there and you are more than welcome to stop by and see what we have.

Manure Exchange

The OCD is organizing a manure exchange program beginning spring of 2010.  We are looking to add to our list of manure donors and manure seekers through the winter months.  We can then connect those wanting to receive manure with those wanting to donate manure this spring.
Let us know if you would like to be added to the list of participants, or if you have questions or comments about the program.  Contact Laura Clark at 509-422-0855 ext 127
